Launched a cloud-based medical history-taking service, which supports Japanese, English and Khmer
To support a precise collection of medical history-taking data and smooth communication among medical staff

Sunrise Japan Hospital Phnom Penh (SJH), opened a Japanese-style medical facility in Phnom Penh which is the capital of Cambodia in October 2016, launched the multilingual cloud-based medical history-taking service provided by NEC to improve Cambodian medical infrastructure and medical services. This system allows nurses or patients to enter the information such as symptoms, social histories or past medical histories guided by the navigation on a tablet device. The system collects precise medical history-taking data and supports smooth coordination and communication between Cambodian and Japanese medical staff. NEC will contribute for all over the world to improve safe, secure and fair medical infrastructure by leveraging advanced healthcare ICT.

In Cambodia, to upgrade the medical infrastructure has been an urgent because as many as 200,000 patients annually go out to surrounding countries for treatment.

Cambodia is now pursuing a nation-wide economic growth policy as it continues to gain political stability. The International Monetary Fund (IMF)* predicts that Cambodia will maintain a steady 7% economic growth rate until 2020. Although there has been economic growth, to upgrade the medical infrastructure was the big urgent because more than 200,000 patients in Cambodia annually go out to surrounding countries for treatment.
In response to this urgency, SJH was established with the goal of promoting the international development of Japan's medical care through the efforts of Shigemi Kitahara, Director of the Kitahara Neurosurgical Institute, and the Japanese government. SJH is a Japanese-style medical facility, financed by JGC Corporation in Cambodia, and Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) and KMSI (Kitahara Medical Strategies International) established in capital city Phnom Penh.
Many government officials from both countries attended the opening ceremony, including the prime minister of Cambodia, focusing much attention on this advanced medical service. SJH offers a Japanese-style medical service that targets emergency medical care as well as neurosurgery and health checkups. SJH aims to improve its medical services abroad and contribute to developing human resources.

Using a tablet to ensure

SJH uses the "multilingual cloud-based medical history-taking service" developed by NEC by leveraging ICT based on Japanese medical know-how. This service supports in Japanese, English or Khmer (Cambodia's official language) on a tablet device. Users enter symptoms, the time elapsed since the onset of the disease or illness, life history and medical history through a selection of menus that allows the system to collect the data precisely without a human interpreter. The system then analyzes the collected data, suggests the candidates of some possible treatments and tests, and supports physicians to enter the diagnosis. The data entered in Khmer by patients or nurses also be able to view in Japanese and English. This provides not only to eliminate the time for interpreting and possible mistranslations but also to enable smooth communication between Cambodian and Japanese staff at the hospital.

NEC will contribute for advanced medical care leveraging ICT
and keep providing to worldwide

NEC has been executing various projects leveraging ICT in healthcare and medical fields. Launched its advanced "multilingual cloud-based medical history-taking service ", SJH, in addition to the precise and uniform medical history-taking service, is expected to contribute to improve the quality of local medical care and to train the medical staff by leveraging the accumulated data. NEC is also planning to contribute with ICT such as systems for remote consultation support and risk identification. The remote consultation support system allows the user to give advice from Japan to local doctors. The risk identification system identifies disease risks by analyzing the correlations between diet, lifestyle and disease based on AI analysis with wide range of case data. NEC will focus on "worldwide contribution" for global medical and healthcare fields and "worldwide promotion" of Japanese-style medical care.
