The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) has been attracting fans globally for more than 70 years. Today, the LPGA is more serious than ever about event security. NEC is the LPGA's Official Technology Partner, and has been working strategically with the LPGA over the past few years to improve the safety, security and overall experience of its players, golf fans, event staff and media at golf events across the United States.
When accredited media first receive press badges at select events, they now also register their faces with NEC's NeoFace® Express, which uses facial recognition for fast, frictionless media re-entry, as well as quick access to designated media areas. NeoFace® Express streamlines credential management, giving press and event staff one less hassle to deal with, and safeguards press pass usage by only the original registrant.
For the fans, the same biometric solution supporting law enforcement agencies and protecting international airports is now strengthening gate security for the LPGA. When entering the main gate, attendees are quickly screened for entry by NEC Enhanced Video Analytics (EVA), which performs crowd analysis and is interfaced to check against an internal watch list. NEC EVA facial and behavioral recognition not only elevates the security of the event, it brings peace of mind to LPGA players and staff, and creates a safe environment for everyone to simply unwind and enjoy themselves.
In response to past privacy issues in "Players Only" areas, such as locker rooms, NeoFace® Express alerts security personnel to the presence of potential imposters trying to gain entry. LPGA pros can now relax and enjoy greater security and privacy.
To heighten the tournament experience for fans already safely within the perimeter, NEC is developing a mobile fan app. This solution will provide a map of the golf course, show where specific players are playing, and locate emergency stations and amenities such as food and drink. It can also alert the guest to coupons or engage them with special Fan Appreciation Programs and merchandise offerings.
Working closely with the LPGA to support its mission of advancing the sport worldwide, NEC is committed to introducing unprecedented innovation to women's professional golf. In addition to providing high-availability servers, data storage and state-of-the-art biometric security technology, NEC is building a complex LPGA database that will provide specific player, tournament and golf course statistics, as well as detailed analytics on players' past and present performances. Fans, media and players alike will have the ability to directly connect with the sport's history and continuously expanding data, for a fully engaged LPGA fan experience.
Jon Podany, Chief Commercial Officer of the LPGA, stated, "NEC is a strategic technology partner with innovations that enhance the fan experience, and provide an expanded level of safety and event security for players and fans alike."
